Dr. Nadine Strauß

Postdoctoral Researcher

Nadine Strauß has joined the Media Innovation Lab (MiLab) at the University of Vienna as a Post Doc in May 2018. Before joining the MiLab team, she completed her Ph.D. at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR, University of Amsterdam) in Corporate Communications. In 2016, she went on a research visit to the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, working together with colleagues from the department of Media Economics and Entrepreneurship. In 2014, she received her Research Master degree in Communication Science with ‘cum laude’ from the University of Amsterdam.

Nadine Strauß’s research interests at the MiLab focus on the relationships between news consumption via new media and technologies and political behavior. In particular, she is interested how new media environments (e.g., news algorithms) affect political engagement and democratic behavior. In her doctoral thesis, she investigated the interrelationships between news media and the stock market. Taking an interdisciplinary multi-method approach, she made use of automated and manual content analyses of tweets and news articles, time series analyses, qualitative case studies, event studies, interviews and network analyses. Furthermore, Nadine Strauß has published articles in peer-reviewed journals on various research topics such as issue management, digital diplomacy, framing and agenda-setting as well as investor relations and trust.
